The Blooming Blogger: A Room with a View

Good Morning Peeps!  I hope you all had a great weekend!  We had two birthday parties at our home this weekend and they both went really well.  I posted a few pics on my fb page including me leading the conga line.  I will be back later this week to tell you all about the fun we had spray painting aprons at my oldest daughter’s party, my 2012 house goals and maybe a room update.

Today we welcome to The Blooming Blogger  series Lisa from .   I first “met” Lisa earlier this year through our blogs and I’ve enjoyed seeing her projects and home.  She posts some very cool posts with architecture and inspiration from around the world, like and .
Lisa is not only beautiful but is always sweet and encouraging, I love when a comment or email from her appears in my inbox.  She has great style and I’m looking forward to seeing what she does in 2012!   Please stop over and say hi to Lisa today!

How did you chose the name of your blog and does it have any special meaning?

A Room with A View is a novel by English author E.M. Forster which was made into a movie by Indian producer, Ismail Merchant, in collaboration with English director, James Ivory. Therefore the title is (loosely) a nod to my formative years – childhood spent in India and eleven years living in the UK. This site is also a space where I can share my views on all things decorating and design-related and anything else that I think readers might be interested in.

How long have you been blogging?

I began blogging in the last week of May 2011, so about seven months. A month before that I had no idea what a blog was.

What is your favorite accent color right now?

I have always been drawn to the exotic hues of the ocean and have recently been introducing teals and turquoises into my personal decor, particularly in the living room. This collage shows you some of my decorative items

and I also wrote about it . I am loving the effect.

Share your favorite room or project that you’ve completed recently.

There have been a few projects that I have recently completed that I am very happy with. In this case it would be appropriate to share my recent floral creation as I am guest posting on The Blooming Hydrangea today. I transformed a regular chandelier

into a floral one for my daughter, Emily’s room.

It is a unique piece that she is thrilled with. You could read more about the process .

How do you balance blogging and home life?  Any tips?

The key to balance is efficiency with one’s time, to set aside a certain part of the day for blogging – it does not have to be a long period of time and it certainly does not have to be every day. In addition to blogging I also fit in work and studying and the daily house-related tasks when the kids are in school, and I have to make sure I have dinner ready for when they need to eat. I will have one child entering middle school in the fall and my oldest will be in high school so this past year I have been particularly focused on being more efficient with my time so that I can be ready for them when they are back home studying or if I am driving them to and from extra curricular classes. Sometimes I respond to comments on my posts from my iPhone when I am sitting in my car waiting to pick up one of my kids.

Over these past seven months I have been able to see a distinct pattern as far as when I am best able to focus on writing my posts without compromising anything else. I am learning to set aside some late nights (when kids are in bed) and/or very early morning and the occasional Sunday afternoon to type out basic ideas. I do also work on them a little when I have some spare time during the day. As long as one has good pictures and a basic idea for a post, the rest should fall into place. I do think about future posts constantly and when I have an idea I make a note of it to work on further so I do not forget. This has helped save time on occasion. But it is important not to allow blogging to consume your life because it easily could! Blog posts do not have to be lengthy as long as one has a good picture, something thought-provoking, attention-grabbing or topical, interesting and fun.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions?

Oh yes! One important blog-related resolution is to learn to use my camera better and improve the quality of my pictures (I very much dislike the graininess in some of them). In continuation of what I mentioned above I plan to be more organized with the writing of posts. On a personal note (and because I have to throw in a healthier lifestyle resolution here), I plan to ramp up my Zumba sessions! I started this exercise routine a couple of months ago at home and really enjoy them.

Do you have one room or house goal you are for sure doing in 2012?

I have at least three – the has to be repainted and stenciled. It was planned for the week between Christmas and New Year but there was absolutely no time. The guest room needs an overhaul of sorts and my study needs some work. And that is just the beginning!

Thank you, Ange, for inviting me to participate in this delightful series on The Blooming Hydrangea, a blog I count as one of my favorites. I am thrilled to be included among some very worthy guests.
