Last year at this time I was typing up a post for house goals 2011 to link up with The Nester. There have been a few changes since then, the biggest being selling our home last June and buying a new house in a new city. The great thing was, we finished all the projects we had on our list and in only six months time! I did an updated version of our 2011 House Goals post in June right before we moved.
Now it’s time to post my House Goals for 2012. Last year I was new to blogging and had no clue what I was doing. This year, I have too many ideas and lofty goals but I thought I’d post them all anyways. Just a FYI, I started this blog post on December 26th and it is now January 11th and I am just now finishing this up. My motivation has left the building and I would love to find it. Anyone else lacking in the motivation department right now?
Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom
Unfinished projects are common around here as you’ll see in a few moments so I’d really like to complete this before starting a new project. Ok, who am I kidding with this crap. I’ve already been rearranging rooms and furniture on the main floor like a crazy woman.
Last month I was thinking about stenciling behind the bed and I even have the stencil but I can’t quite pull the trigger on it. Not sure what I will do behind the bed.
For sure I will be adding some accent color (coral perhaps), a lamp shade on the ceiling fan/light fixture, some more pillows on the bed, a bedskirt, art for the wall and a bench for the end of the bed. I would love to paint the nightstands if we don’t stencil but the hubby needs convincing on that one. This room just really needs help, it’s going no where good really fast.
Our master bathroom needs a new paint job, along with spray painting the light fixture and doing something about the mirror, replacing the glass globes for the light fixture and a new shower curtain as well. Seems easy enough, now I just need to get motivated!
Kitchen
Kitchen Makeover to include Painting the cabinets white, new lighting, subway tile backsplash, new sink and faucet, new hardware and new countertops. I miss our kitchen from the last house and wouldn’t mind something similar in this house. Window treatments for windows in the eating area and above the sink, maybe roman shades and then also replacing the ugly plastic vertical blinds in the sliding glass door with curtains.
I love open cabinets as well so this is one of my favorite inspiration pics.
* The hubby finished the stools so they are no longer naked and ugly! Woo Hoo, cross that off the list!
Mudroom
Mudroom closet – Storage for shoes and dog stuff inside the closet
Add something to the wall where the kids’ coats hang, maybe some moulding, barn wood or I’m not sure yet but something of interest.
Would love something like this for the closet area.
Dining Room
I would maybe move the dining room into the formal living room because we don’t use it as a living room *
If I do that I would love to do an entire wall of board and batten type of moulding from the floor to the ceiling.
Need some new curtains and pillows for the chairs.
There is no light fixture in the current living room now turned dining room so we are on the hunt for that.
* Well ok, I did move the dining room into the living room already. Remember I started this post the day after Christmas. I still need to do a lot of work in there but I like how much more room we have to move around the table and we actually use this room now. Here is a quick picture from the other day when I was moving stuff around, it already looks different, I apparently have a disease called rearrangitis.
We debated turning the dining room into my hubby’s office but have changed our minds on that. Instead we are going to make the dining room into a playroom where the entertainment center turned play kitchen will reside because there is no way we are hauling that beast into the basement without someone dying.
Maybe in a few years the dining room will eventually be a library with built in bookshelves and chairs. Unless I find some other random use for it before then.
Here is my inspiration, I love this pin, it is gorgeous! I had it pinned and then it disappeared but I found it again on . You must see the before!
The Bub’s Room
This room really needs to be painted, it’s currently forest green and there is nothing on the walls – it’s pretty lacking. Poor guy, we finished his room at the old house and had to leave it behind two months later.
This photo was taken two days after we moved in. It really doesn’t look much different than this just imagine some Geo-Trax all over the floor.
There is a little nook area that I would like to either turn into a desk area or maybe bookshelves above a bench? Anyone have a great pinboard of little boy bedroom inpsiraiton? I could use some so let me know if you have one!
House Miscellaneous
Painting the main floor walls and getting rid of the flat beige paint. The hand marks on my walls from the children are ridiculous and they don’t wipe off, plus I am not loving the beige in every single room of this entire house.
Finish painting the trim white on the second floor and the basement. I am so happy I painted all the trim on the main floor and in our bedroom. The thought of painting all the door casings in the basement has me crying already but I will persevere!
Installing new doors and handles throughout the house. I love the new doors on the main floor even with the ugly brass door handles still on them and I really want to send my man to Home Depot to buy some more doors and get them installed.
Spruce up the upstairs and basement bathrooms. They have the boring old oak builder grade vanities and beige paint look going on, nothing too exciting but not horrible either. Just kind of aplain jane place to get your business done.
This stencil, mirror and bold vanity are really awesome, I’d love to do something funky like this. Obviously it’s a much smaller room than what I have but it’s great inspiration.
The biggest goal we have for our home this year is to be used for God and His glory. That those who walk through the doors feel welcomed and loved. I am so very grateful for the home that we have to call our own. Our home is so much more than we deserve and if I didn’t do even 1/4 of these goals, I would still be quite happy to call this place home. My children might not remember what color the walls were or how the living room was arranged in 2012 but I hope they remember making cookies, playing games, reading stories, eating dinner together, celebrating birthdays, playing hide and seek, laughing and having fun here. I want them to remember that this is a place where they are always loved, accepted and welcome.

you are so good- i don't write down too many house goals because i get a little sidetracked sometimes… and i will on a whim do a project i wasn't planning and then not get done what i had planned.
oops.
love the inspiration pics and can't wait to see it all come together!
Ange- you never cease to amaze me. Thank you for constantly being a source of inspiration for me….btw, I have that same bathroom inspiration pic for our kiddos bathroom. Love the stenciled walls and red sink.
Xx. Patience
I just have to comment on how much I love your master…the navy walls with the brass bed is *GORGEOUS*! I can't wait to see the projects come to life!
Love your goal for making memories for your children! That's always more important than anything else.
Wow, those are some awesome goals! I can't wait to see what you accomplish. =)
Oooh! Can't wait to see what happens over at your place in 2012
Everything you've done so far is FABULOUS.
By the way, did you happen to see this post on Honey & Fitz?
That last inspiration photo you put up for the bathroom with the stencil almost reminds me of some of that lattice moulding. I have no idea how hard implementing that compared to stencils would be but it's a neat idea…
Pull the paint trigger! Worst that happens is you hate it and paint over the entire thing. But you just might LOVE it. Love the plans you have for the rest of your house. I love board & batten and beadboard and subway tile and well let's just say I'm sure I'll find a lot of inspiration from your home for mine.
Whew, you have a lot ahead of you, but I bet it will all be fsbulous!
Whew – am exhausted just reading this. Love the idea of a stencil behind the bed (am considering doing the same).
Would love you to link up to our multi blog link party on Jan 31 – Imagine the Impossibilities Challenge
My challenge is purging and organizing 16 years worth of "stuff" buried in my basement – scary!
Hope to see you there.

I am excited about your house goal and kuddos for you getting them down on paper.
Love, love how making this house and home for your family is most important and putting God in it….Love following along and can't wait to see what you do
There's always something to do around the house, but I like the last one the best! Have a great day!
Debbie
Whew! I'm tired just reading all of that..and I don't have to do any of it. lol Actually, I'm like you. I have so many ideas and changes in my head that it's hard to know where to start. Great post Ange, and I know everything you put your hand to will be fabulous…especially that last and most important goal. Can't wait to follow your journey this year!
