Stenciled Burlap Tree Skirt for $8

Good Morning Lovely People! Can you believe there are only 10 days until Christmas? I am mostly done with my shopping but you know how that goes. On a side note, I am eating buttered popcorn while typing this post so excuse the spelling errors, it’s from my buttery fingers on the keyboard.
Today I want to show you my easy stenciled tree skirt that I made for our second Christmas Tree. We have only ever had one tree and my mom made us our tree skirt a few years ago so there was never a reason for a second skirt. Until this year, when our realtor gave us a Christmas tree as a thank you for buying a house. Hey, I’ll take a free tree, thanks! Really you think he’d give the tree to the people who sold the house to us seeing as they paid his commission but I’m not complaining.
We put our second tree, who I am calling Shawn, named after our Realtor, in front of the living room window.  Blog readers meet Shawn:

Like my window treatments? Oh wait, I put them in the dining room for now so we don’t have any in this room. Seeing as no one uses the front living room except the dogs, we put our nicer which in our house means breakable ornaments on Shawn. It ended up being more of a turquoise, sliver and gold theme which goes nicely with my dining room tablescape!
Seeing as Shawn was free and I found a new tree stand at Goodwill for $1.99, I didn’t really want to spend money on a second tree skirt just in case this is the only year with two trees in our home. Back when doing the dining room tablescape I purchased some burlap from JoAnn fabrics but it was a real light burlap and I wanted the more natural color. I found the natural color burlap at Hobby Lobby and used that on my table which meant I had 1 and 3/4 yards of burlap to return to JoAnns. Inspiration struck before I returned my burlap and I now have a second tree skirt. I originally just wrapped it around the base of the tree and called it a day. Then I had the epiphany of stenciling the tree skirt. I usually don’t have this many great ideas in a week but I think eating all these cookies is really helping, at least that’s what I tell myself.
I used my leftover paint sample from the cloffice and my Wallovers stencil that I also used in the cloffice.

Here is my burlap all ready to be stenciled on my kitchen floor.  I put down some newspaper underneath so the paint that bled through didn’t stencil my kitchen floor.  Which would be cool if my floor wasn’t in good shape.

I didn’t spray my stencil with adhesive, just laid it down and started painting.  I knew the skirt would be scrunched up under the tree so precision in lining this up was not important.  

Here it is, all painted and ready to go under the tree.  I think I did this in about 20 minutes or so with a few minor interruptions from the bubs.   Can you believe he wanted breakfast?  Kids, I tell you.

The stencil and paint I already had on hand so those were free.  Maybe not the most beautiful tree skirt but it’s something different and could be changed up every year for $8!  Now I just need to get more bling on my tree before Christmas is over!  Are you done decorating for Christmas or did you give up because there’s only 10 days left?
